چکیده

In this paper we study the scalability issue in the design of a centralized bandwidth broker model for dynamic control and management of QoS provisioning. We propose and develop a path-oriented, quota-based dynamic bandwidth allocation mechanism for efficient admission control operations under the centralized bandwidth broker model. We demonstrate that this dynamic bandwidth allocation mechanism can significantly reduce the overall number of QoS state accesses/updates, thereby increasing the overall call processing capability of the bandwidth broker. Based on the proposed dynamic bandwidth allocation mechanism, we also extend the centralized architecture with a single bandwidth broker to a hierarchically distributed architecture with multiple bandwidth brokers to further improve its scalability. Our study demonstrates that the bandwidth broker architecture can be designed in such a manner that it scales with the increase in the network capacity. key words: bandwidth broker, admission control, resource reser-

A scalable method for treating bottlenecks in a dynamically controlled DiffServ environment

Differentiated Services provide a scalable Quality of Service Concept for the Internet. It allows differentiating service classes which may be treated individually. The data arising between two neighboring network providers is regulated by Service Level Agreements (SLA). The use of static SLAs lacks flexibility. With the introduction of Bandwidth Brokers a concept was provided enabling a dynami...

Design of a Minimal Signaling Based Bandwidth Brokering Protocol

The DiffServ architecture uses automated agents known as Bandwidth Brokers for provisioning, allocating and managing QoS resources within domains as weil as communicating with agents of other domains so that QoS guarantees can be provided across domains. The Bandwidth Brokers attempt to establish an end-to-end Quality of Service through signaling between each other. This leads to an implicit tr...

Subscription Summaries for Scalability and Efficiency in Publish/Subscribe Systems

A key issue when designing and implementing largescale publish/subscribe systems is how to efficiently propagate subscriptions among the brokers of the system. Brokers require this information in order to forward incoming events only to interested users, filtering out unrelated events, which can save significant overheads (particularly network bandwidth and processing time at the brokers). In t...

Middleware-based connection management for QoS-enabled networks

Many applications require network performance bounds, or Quality of Service (QoS), for their proper operation. This is achieved through the appropriate allocation of network resources; however, providing end-to-end QoS is becoming more complex, due to the increasing heterogeneity of networks. For example, end-to-end QoS can be provided through the concatenation of services across multiple netwo...
